Since the addition of QuickBooks 2013 to the family, a few people have called about not being able to see the Save and New button, or sometimes only able to see the top of the buttons.
To resolve this, I am changing resolution on the monitors and checking font sizes.
Depending on the version of Windows that you are in the steps to change resolution and font size are different, so I thought I would share these steps!
How to Screen Resolution for QuickBooks Desktop
Windows XP: (No Longer Supported)
- Right click on your desktop, click on Properties. Click on the Appearance tab and then Settings.
- There is a slider bar to increase resolution- try to use the highest resolution that is comfortable for your eyes. Click Apply to save the resolution setting.
- The range is dependent on your hardware and driver, so if you are not able to increase the resolution enough to make your QuickBooks viewable, give us a call.
Windows 7:
- Right click on your desktop, click Personalize. Click on Display, and Adjust Resolution.
- There is a drop-down menu for Resolution, select your resolution and click Apply.

Windows 10:
- Right click on your desktop, click Display Settings.
- Under resolution attempt to change the resolution to 1920×1080
- The range is dependent on your hardware and driver, so if you are not able to increase the resolution enough to make your QuickBooks viewable, give us a call.
How to Address Windows Font Size for QuickBooks Desktop
Windows XP: (No Longer Supported)
- Right click on your desktop, and click on properties.
- A window should pop up with multiple tabs, click on the Appearance tab, then click on Settings and Advanced.
- Where it reads “DPI setting” there are three choices, Normal, Large, or Custom Setting. Make sure that Normal is selected.
Windows 7
- Right click on your desktop, then click Personalize. Click Display.
- You should see three options, Smaller, Medium, or Larger. Make sure that Smaller is selected.
Windows 10:
- Right click on your desktop, click Display Settings.
- Under Scale and Layout>Change the size of text, apps, and other items choose “100% (recommended)
If all else fails, or if your resolution is as high as it can go, it is possible to “hide” the Windows task bar at the bottom of your screen. This option will enable your task bar to hide when your cursor moves away from it, and pop back up when your cursor goes back down there. You can also move your task bar to the side of your screen.
