Facebook and Your Personal Information

Out Of The Box Technology now has a page on Facebook and we enjoy passing along "news you can use" when it comes to QuickBooks, Information Technology and other accounting technology solutions - plus our events. While there are benefits to Facebook, Richard McElroy, president of the Out Of The Box Technology affiliate in California, wanted to share some information he found recently. Take it away Richard -

I know there are great features and benefits to Facebook, but there are also some dangers to sharing your personal information. 

Please be very aware of the new security and information sharing policies that Facebook has very recently implemented.  Read them very carefully so you understand what they are doing.  They are a for-profit organization and there are reasons it is free to you.  The more you feed it your information, the more they are able to sell that information.
 
It makes life much easier for ID thieves.  They compile bits of information over time and once your profile is filled in, they go to work.  I am not saying dump Facebook.  Just be very careful with what you put up there.  It is no longer private.
